WHAT IS HUNT A KILLER?

Hunt A Killer is an immersive murder mystery game told over the course of six “episodes” or boxes. Each box is filled with different clues and physical items such as autopsy reports, witness statements, and more. You’ll use these clues to solve the ongoing murder mystery. In the final episode you’ll be able to catch the killer!

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

We have three pricing options to choose from. All of the plans renew automatically.

Our memberships are billed upfront. At the end of your term, your subscription will automatically renew with the next term unless you cancel.

ISN'T THIS A LITTLE EXPENSIVE?

Hunt A Killer is cheaper than a night out with friends or going out to an escape room. Each box offers hours of gameplay and if you split it between a few people it’s even cheaper!

WHAT PAYMENT METHODS DO YOU ACCEPT?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, and Apple Pay (Apple devices only). If you encounter issues using your Discover card, you can use Discover as a payment method within your Apple Pay account. We do not accept pre-paid debit cards, checks, money orders, purchase orders, or digital currency.

Please note, we are currently updating our systems and are not able to upgrade your membership at this time.  We anticipate having this capability soon. Please don’t purchase an additional subscription in the meantime. If you have questions please reach out to our customer service team via sam@huntakiller.com.

HOW DO YOU PLAY HUNT A KILLER?

When your box arrives, celebrate! You’re officially part of an exclusive community full of Hunt A Killer detectives just like you. First, set aside time to dig into the box and read all of the materials. Your goal may change each episode, but will be made clear by the included objective card.

Examine the evidence to uncover critical clues, corroborate alibis, create timelines, and identify each suspect’s means, motive, and opportunity. No two detectives work the case alike, so it’s up to you to figure out how to sift through the clues in a way that works best!

It’s a good idea to dedicate a space to your investigation. Many members use a murder board to keep all of their materials in one place and organize their theories.

Feel free to mark up the materials by highlighting documents, pinning them up to a murder board or organizing the clues however you like. Join our official Facebook group (Hunt A Killer – Official) to chat with other members and be sure to join the spoiler-free Facebook groups set up for each individual episode. You can talk through ideas and theories with others who are also working through the same box and ask our Community Leaders any questions that pop up along the way.

Don’t forget to tag us on Instagram at @huntakillerinc and use the hashtag #huntakiller in your captions. We love seeing photos and videos of our customers playing!

Hunt A Killer is closest to a PG-13 rating due to the slightly graphic nature of some of the clues (like autopsy reports and crime scene photos) and also due to the difficulty of some of the clues (like certain ciphers and puzzles). Beyond this, we leave it up to parental discretion.

WHAT DO THE GAME DIFFICULTY RATINGS MEAN?

Every Hunt A Killer game includes a Difficulty Rating to help you find the best game for your skills and experience level. Ratings are listed on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being Easy and 5 being Hard. Ratings are based on the following criteria, and each game details page lists which of these factors apply to the game:

Back Track: Later episodes of this season require referencing evidence found in earlier episodes to solve.
Eye for Detail: Solving this case requires especially close reading of the evidence.
Red Herrings: This experience contains red herrings or other information meant to muddy the case and make finding the truth more of a challenge.
Plentiful Puzzles: This experience contains multiple puzzles that expand gameplay beyond traditional investigation skills such as critical reading or creating a timeline.
Challenging Ciphers: Solving this case requires solving at least one challenging code or cipher.
Self-Guided: This is a less guided experience, encouraging players to explore the story in their own way without being directed on what they should be looking for to solve the case.

WHAT DO I DO IF I FEEL STUCK OR FEEL LIKE IT'S TOO HARD TO FIGURE OUT?

Well detective, luckily you have a few options:

1. Take a break from the case and come back to it. Sometimes fresh eyes are all you need to crack a case wide open.

2. Each episode has a dedicated hints page that offers spoiler-free hints for each item in the box as well as solutions if you are really stuck.

3. Each episode has dedicated online forums that are spoiler-free. Our community leaders who monitor all of the Facebook groups will be happy to help you.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I'VE FINISHED AN EPISODE?

Each episode has an objective card with instructions on how to complete this phase of the investigation.
